MIST Applications

Computer Club

Introduction:

MIST Computer Club is one of the finest clubs of MIST that is supervised by our experienced, cooperative and so many helpful faculty members. Their guidance and support help us, students, a lot to enrich our club and hopefully we will do more good deeds in  the future. Here we will discuss the activities we are performing and our future plans for the club.

MCC mainly focuses on contest programming and grooming students for competitive and professional programming. This year we were extremely proud to host the National Collegiate Programming Contest (NCPC 2020), the flagship programming contest in Bangladesh with participation from 77 universities. While we continue our focus on contest programming, recently, under the guidance of our respected head sir and advisor of the club, we are diversifying the scopes of MCC. We are venturing various open courses and workshops, developing various multi-dimensional projects through the newly established MCC R&D wing. We are currently conducting an Introductory Web Development Course, which is open for all students from any department of MIST.  We plan to conduct such open courses and workshops in the future as well, on an even bigger scale.

In short, currently the regular activities of MCC can be categorized to-

Contest Programming Classes:

We regularly hold weekly programming classes for programmers of MIST. Programmers are classes into beginner and advanced. Mr. Tanzir, a renowned coach for contest programming currently serves as the mentor for the advanced programmers. During COVID-19 lockdown, we’re still taking all classes online with over 95% participation.

Contest Programming:

On top of the classes, we also arrange programming contests both online and on-site. They help to improve the programming and problem solving skills of the students drastically.

Development Courses and Workshops:

We are also diversifying our field from contest programming and conducting courses on software development. Currently Web development course, with 124 registered students is going on.

MCC R&D:

As very recently established, we plan on using this wing to solve real life , impactful, project-based problems. The currently ongoing projects are listed here.

Events and Competitions:

We also host contest programming events regularly. We hosted 1st MIST IUPC in 2019 with participation from 55 universities and hosted the prestigious NCPC 2020 with participation from 77 universities which garnered widespread publicity in print and televised media. (media coverage).

Ongoing Courses:

Under the supervision of the faculty members, the ongoing course that MCC is performing now:

1. Basic C Programming Course for Beginners

2. Advanced Programming Classes for Competitive Programming

3. Web Development Course

Basic C Programming Course for Beginners:

The basic C programming learning course held by MCC for the fresh new students is taken by the very diligent and devoted mentor Swapnil Biswas of CSE 16. Under his administration the students of CSE 20 are performing very well and they seem to love the classes and programming. Responses to these classes are overwhelming and they are also doing well on the online contests. Now, Mentor Swapnil Biswas has planned to divide them into teams to create an environment to have the taste of team contesting and build up a good relationship between them as a team. Besides those who are making quick progress, a separate class is taken by Lec Muhaimin where advanced topics are taught. We are very hopeful to get a good result from this course and build some excellent programmers for MIST. Here are more details about their class and contest held till now:

Advanced Programming Classes for CSE 19, 18, 17

CSE 19 is doing well in the field of sports programming. Three out of four teams from them participated in the NCPC 2020 held at MIST. Therefore, MCC is focused on training them properly for the upcoming programming contests. There are a few contest programmers from CSE 18 and a well-furnished team from the graduating batch who are attending these classes. Currently, they are under the guidance of a coach,Tanzir Islam (DU CSE). He is taking individual contests, collaborative contests with IUT and DIU, team contests, and long contests. Students are doing well in these contests. Tanzir Islam is also taking classes on the core topics of competitive programming. MCC hopes to get good teams for the next ICPC regional and NCPC. Here is an overview of their classes and contests:

Web Development Course

The Web Development Course held by MCC and made public for all students across the country. Students of MIST and other universities take this course spontaneously. It is taken by some very intelligent and devoted mentors of MCC. They are currently in Level-03. With a target to give the full concept and practical knowledge of full-stack web development the team worked very hard to accomplish the goal. Initially, students without a computer science background are being separated and taken under an introduction class on the frontend, database, backend, and their connection. After that, several classes on coding and designing will be arranged. Frontend will be the main topic throughout the course. Response to these classes is overwhelming and they seem to love all the classes. At last, mentors will give them a project to examine their learning and solve their faced problems.

Future Plans For MCC

We have divided the future plans of MCC into two subcategories:

1. Courses

2. Contests

3. Workshop

4. Events

Courses

Programming Course for Other Departments : We want to circulate an online course targeting other departments of MIST except for CSE especially the 1st and 2nd year students. Because all other departments have basic C programming courses and often we see them struggling with this programming thing. That will help us to make our club more widespread not only for CSE students.

Game Development Course : A lot of students from CSE level 2 and 3 are interested in game development. So we want to start a course in game development.

Contests

MCC Logo Contest : The logo of our computer club has not changed since the beginning of the club. As a result, the logo lacks a modern logo design concept. And the logo is not as attractive as it should be to catch someone’s attention. That’s why we think sir, we need a new and modern logo. So we want to arrange a logo contest among MIST students.

Programming Contest : We have planned to arrange at least one on-site team programming contest monthly for the CSE student. It will help to enhance their problem solving skills, upgrade their teamwork skills, and strengthen their team combination. We have also planned to reward the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place holder from the contest if our Honourable Department Head sir agrees. It will boost up their confidence and eagerness to learn more as well as motivation to others.

Workshop/Seminar/ Webinar

We want to do some basic workshop programs to enrich the club’s reputation and increase its activity. The specialty of these workshops are for all the students from all levels of MIST and as well as other universities like BUP. They are mentioned below:

1. How to make your PC faster

2 Tech Talks with CSE alumni working, researching and studying abroad

3. Pep talks with established professionals and alumni of our field

4. Basic discussion on Ethical hacking and Cyber security

5. Make your own profile/blog website with GitHub

6. How to make yourself secured from hacking

7. Graphics Design

8. Video Editing

Events

CSE Fest : We want to organize a CSE fest where there will be an Intra Department Programming Contest, gaming contest, and cultural program.

MCC R&D Team

We formed a team from all levels of students .The purpose of this team is to work with different types of projects, implementing new ideas. We selected some talented people from all levels to work with. The currently ongoing projects are listed here.

Goal of this team:

1. Implementing new ideas in project

2. Gathering knowledge through real life application
