Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering (EECE)
About Us
EECE Department started its journey in 2003. The department is currently offering postgraduate program- M.Sc/ M Engg & undergraduate program- B.Sc in Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering, with an annual intake of 65 students. At present 300 students are studying including some overseas students. From the academic session of 2012-13 EECE dept. has started Postgraduate Program for the students. EECE Department provides well equipped and modern laboratory facilities for academic and research purposes in various fields of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering right from the outset.
The main focus of the EECE Department is on three major areas: power, electronics and communication in the undergraduate curricular. The proposed syllabus (for B.Sc) comprises a total of 158.5 credits.
Mission and Vision
- To provide comprehensive education in electrical, electronic and communication engineering and conduct research.
- To produce technologically advanced and professionals with high moral and ethical values to meet the domestic, and global needs in the field of electrical, electronic and communication engineering.
- To provide constantly, advisory and testing services to public and private organizations including personal in the areas of electrical, electronic and communication engineering.
- To conduct collaboration and research activities with national and international academia and industry.
Programs Offered
The Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering offers the following programs:
Bachelor of Science Program: BSc in EECE
Master of Science Program: MSc in EECE
Master of Engineering Program: M Eng. in EECE
Doctoral Program: Ph.D. in EECE
Short Courses: Based on the requirement from the students, Govt establishments, industry etc. dynamic short courses of one to four week are conducted by the department of EECE. Some of the recently short courses include Certificate course on Microcontroller and Robotics, AutoCAD, Electrical Services Design etc.
Faculties
The expertise of the faculty members of this department ranges from power systems to VLSI technology. The research areas of teachers and students of this department include satellite, navigation, radar detection and tracking, optical fibre communication, broadband wireless communications, renewable energy, thin-film technology, power system, electrical machines, solid state device, signal processing, image processing, device modelling, power electronics, control engineering, high voltage engineering, etc. The department got accreditation from BAETE in September 2010. At present 30 faculties specialized from different background (Military, civil, part time and visiting) are serving in this department.

Departmental Library
In addition to the other facilities provided by the department, a Department library has also been established. MIST Central Library and the Department library which holds over 700 books and thesis books of ex-students collaboratively provide help to the faculties and student. The books in the library are procured based on the recommendations of the faculty members and students and are mainly available to assist the students in their research work.
The library is well subscribed by the students and is a hub of research work and project activities undertaken by the department. The library provides the students undertaking different courses and ideal platform to exchange ideas and collaborate.
CATS-MIST (EECE)
Electrical Electronic and Communication Engineering (EECE) Department of MIST started functioning in 2003 under the faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Presently, the department is served by a group of competent qualified faculty members having vast experience in three major areas of the field namely: Power, Electronics and Communication. The faculties are always engaged in numerous research areas including satellite navigation, space engineering, radar detection and tracking, optical fiber communication, free space optical communication, wired and wireless communication, renewable energy and thin film technology.

EECE dept. has created an ideal environment for the students to carry out their research, undertake projects and publish their results in international/national journals and conferences with highly motivated faculty and state of the art laboratories. The dept. also collaborates actively with the industry to carry out research work on areas of mutual interest. These research works are mainly led by and mentored by the faculties so that the students acquire the necessary skill set and knowledge that help them further developing their research abilities. Each year the research work of our faculties and students contribute in having a global footprint to include many reputed countries like USA, UK, Japan, India, South Korea, Spain and so on. The research work of our faculties and students have resulted in more than 40 Journal/ Book chapter publications and over 100 conference papers.
Conferences and Seminars
Department of EECE has always been in a remarkable position for research work. With over 100 conference papers and more than 40 publication in internationally well reputed journals, our students and faculty members are always putting a lot of efforts in the ECE research arena. Again the experience gained from industrial training at over 12 reputed companies, UG students also contribute in futuristic research works during their stay at MIST. The department hosts relevant conferences and seminars with the most recent being the seminar on “OBE system”. A seminar entitled “Preparation for Accreditation of Outcome-Based Engineering Programs” was successfully organized by dept. of EECE, MIST on 7th February, 2018. The guest speaker Professor Muhammed A Satter, PhD, MBA delivered his speech which mainly covered the criteria of ABET, the relationship between Outcome-Based Education & Outcome-Based Accreditation, Course Assessment Vs Program Assessment, Program Vs Institutional Accreditation and benefits of program-level accreditation, etc. The seminar was attended by the Dean of faculty of ECE, Head of the dept. of EECE, and 45 faculty members from AE, NAME, CE, CSE, IPE & EECE dept. The dept. also got the honor to host 6th International Conference on Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (ICEEICT 2024) aimed to bring together leading academic scientists, researchers, scholars to exchange and share their experiences, research results about all aspects of Electrical Engineering, ICT and discuss the practical challenges encountered and the solutions adopted. It was held in 02-4th May 2024 at MIST premises.

09. The IEEE MIST Student Branch organized a seminar on "Planning and Standardization Design of Electrical Substations" on 02 October 2023, featuring a talk by Al Amin Hossain, Business Development Manager, Export (Technical), and Deputy Manager at Reverie Power and Automation Engineering Limited. The seminar gave insights about the fundamental aspects of electrical substations, covering topics such as planning, site selection, design principles, and industry standards.
10. 25 June 2024 Launching GNSS Ionospheric Observatory: New Horizon Of Collaborative Space Research In Bangladesh. The GNSS Observatory System was commendably inaugurated by Respected Commandant Maj Gen Mohammed Saidul Islam, rcds, ndc, psc, on 26 June, 2024 in the Analog and Digital Communication Laboratory of EECE Dept in MIST (9th Floor, Tower-3). Dr Emanuelle Pica and Dr Massimo Viola from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), Italy have given a short brief on the observatory system. The audiences were also benefitted from the informative speech of Col Md Golam Mostafa, PhD (Retd), Professor of EECE Dept
Extra-Curricular Activities
Beside academic development, dept. of EECE is also focused in the development of communication and leadership skills of its students. The dept. arranges various functions that encourages and gives support to the students to take part and nurture their social, leadership and managerial skills. They take part in cultural competitions, debate competitions, leadership development programs, robotics etc. and have certainly proved their capabilities in the above activities. EECE dept. has been in glorious positions in inter dept. cultural competition and in inter dept. debate competitions. Students have also showed their skill in the field of sports as well by being champion in the corresponding competition in recent years. Our students participate in fun activities like gaming in high spec. computers, VR gaming and so on.
Our Footprints and Alumni
Our graduates from the EECE department have been creating milestones as they are making their way into a successful career after graduating and becoming a source of information for many other students. Till date, 847 students have graduated from our dept. in total 14 batches, the first batch being graduated in 2006. Since then, they are making remarkable progress not only in the big power industries like PGCB, DESCO, DPDC, CPGCPL, RPCL and communication industries like Banglalink, Teletalk, GP, Bangabandhu Satellite but also having their footprints in other Multinational Companies like BATB, Unilever and Government sectors. A significant number of our graduates have pursued higher education from renowned universities from home and abroad and many of them successfully contributing to the education sector as faculties. They are a part of the official alumni association , MISTAS (MIST Alumni Association).
Course Curriculum for Bachelor Degree in EECE
Electricity, Electronics and Communication plays vital an
d in fact, indispensable role in all fields of modern human activities. Consequently, Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering (EECE) has established itself as one of the most important branches of engineering. The technical aspects of this branch of engineering are often categorized by terms such as power systems, power electronics, telecommunications, electronic circuits and devices, and computer engineering. Communication is one of the three battle winning factors in military. In the modern days, communication is one of the most exercised research arenas too. The students of Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering are required to have a balanced knowledge of digital electronics, computers, microprocessors and programming in addition to the knowledge on various subjects of electrical and electronics. The new generation of electrical engineers is encouraged to undertake research and development activities in the above areas and this department is committed to the study and analysis of fundamental as well as applied problems. Problems of military and national importance have consequently received great emphasis in the activities of this department.
